Overcoming the sunk cost fallacy requires not just analytical rigor but organizational courage, and the managerial accounting framework provides the intellectual foundation for making these difficult arguments. When you can articulate the NPV of a platform modernization, explain the activity-based cost of your shared services, and demonstrate how your team’s budget flexibility accommodates variable demand, you transform from a cost center leader into a strategic business partner.

More importantly, managerial accounting provides the analytical framework to make better decisions under uncertainty.
